During the July school holidays, Duncan de Klerk and his dad joined 10 other Lads and Dads from various schools (including Hilton College, Treverton and Pretoria Boys High) on an exciting 4 day, 212km mountain biking trip that started at MacKenzie Country Club near Donnybrook and ended at Masakala near Matatiele. The route is part of the Freedom Challenge that runs all the way from Pietermaritzburg to Cape Town, and follows dirt roads, jeep tracks and single track through farms, plantations, tribal lands and nature reserves. They covered between 40 and 60km a day and stayed over night at Centocow Mission, Glen Edward Farm, Ntsikeni Nature Reserve and a traditional guest house in Masakala. They were fortunate to reach the end just ahead of a cold front and impending snow!
