A group of Grade 8 and 9 students from Grace College recently went to the Pietermaritzburg Children’s Home in Woodlands with Dr Brown. This home is an amalgamation of the Hilltops Children’s Home, the Mary Cook Home and the Mildred Ward Project. It provides residential care to over 80 orphaned or vulnerable children who have been placed in its care by the Children’s Court. The children were away at school when we went to do our Community Service. Grace College students therefore helped the Home with office administration. Donations of stationery for the children’s schooling are made to the Home and are stored in an outside container. Our students spent the morning sorting and ordering the stationery in this container, a job that the Home’s staff battle to get around to do. The morning gave us all an appreciation of how enormously privileged we are to have homes and family that care for us.
