Dear Grace College Family,

With the year fast drawing to a close and examination time approaching, it is apt for us to remember our motto for the year, ‘Push Past Impossible.’ It is at this time that we need to redouble our efforts and not slack off. No matter the personal challenges that we all face, now is the time to show real grit in order to surpass what we think is possible.

Our Boks showed just what was required to succeed when they managed to overcome the mighty All Blacks, arguably the best team of all time, in New Zealand. This victory did not happen by chance, it happened because our team prepared thoroughly, believed in their hearts that they possessed the skills to win and most of all were prepared to fight for all eighty minutes for victory. Given these factors, we should not have been surprised at the result.

I pray that each one of our pupils, during this examination time and indeed into next year, would rebel against accepting mediocrity and allow themselves to be challenged to far surpass even their highest expectations.

God bless

Mr V Luksich

Headmaster

ACADEMICS by Mr H Jansen

The IEB NSC examinations have commenced and the Grade 12 learners are hard at work writing and preparing for each exam. The matric results will be published on 2 January and the statement of results will be issued to the Grade 12 learners on the same day. The times for issuing the statement of results will be communicated to the Grade 12 learners.
The Grade 8 to 11 exams commence on Friday, 9 November. There will be no school on Thursday, 8 November to give the learners the opportunity to prepare for the following day’s exams. We want to wish the learners all the best with the upcoming exams and will keep them in our prayers over this period of time. School will continue after the exams and a programme will be communicated to parents and learners.
We have had positive feedback with regards to reports being emailed to parents at the end of each term. This term we will be emailing and printing a hard copy. Please be sure to update your details with our secretaries to receive a digital copy.
Here are some tips for preparing for the upcoming exams.
Organize your study space.
Use flow charts and diagrams.
Practice on old exams.
Explain your answers to others.
Take regular breaks.
Eat a balanced diet.
Plan your exam day.
Exercise moderately and sleep enough.

PUPIL ACHIEVEMENTS

ATHLETICS

Nick de Scally (Gr11) represented KZN in the national schools athletics event in Bloemfontein on Saturday, 13 October. He won the 800m race, running his personal best time, which is now 1:54. This result was only just off the record by 1 second, a record which Johan Cronje, a world championship bronze medalist, has held for the last 20 years. It is also the longest standing record for the Grey Bloemfontein Athletics event. Nick followed this awesome success with a 4th position in the demanding 1500m.

GOLF

Our golfing star, Nikhil Gopal (Gr11) has been selected for the SA Schools Golf team for the third consecutive year. Well done to this fine young gentleman.

MTB

Sam Moore (Gr10) won the KZN XCO series and will be receiving his full colours for KZN. He placed second in the junior age group of the ROAG series and achieved a 9th place in the SA XCO at Mankele near Nelspruit recently.

SA GYM

Matthew Pluke recently represented KZN at the SA Gym Games in Gauteng. Matt came 4th for his floor routine and placed in the top 10 for 4 of the 6 apparatus.

Well done to each of these pupils.
