Welcome to the sixth issue of THE GRACE VINE for 2018.

Dear Grace Family,

As we draw a breath at the conclusion of another very busy term and set our sights on what lies ahead, it is always beneficial to reflect on the term passed. There has been much to be pleased with, not least the very positive trends that are beginning to develop with regards to our academic results. Mr Jansen and I finally had the opportunity to analyze Term 2 results and what a joy it was to see that almost across the board there was an improvement in results. Historically, with Term 2 being an examination term, marks tend to drop, so to see a reversal of this trend was more than pleasing.

We look ahead to an exciting Third Term, which kicks off with two events that are compulsory for all students; Founders’ Day and Inter-House Athletics on the first two weekends of the term respectively. This takes on special significance being our 20th year of existence and I would like to invite all parents and past pupils to join us on these special occasions. Founders’ Day in particular takes on much significance, as we pay tribute to the visionaries of yesteryear, show gratitude to those who are presently striving to grow Grace College and look ahead to an exciting and challenging future.

I wish you all a restful Winter break.

God bless

Mr V Luksich

ACADEMICS - Mr H Jansen (Deputy)

I am extremely proud of the learners who achieved academically this term. It is to be noted that this was the first exam of the year for all grades and the first time that bulk content was assessed. Many learners find this daunting and if statistics are used to portray the mid-year results then a drop in marks are to be expected. We do believe that the June exam gives our learners practice in coping with pressure, time management skills, summarising and studying skills. These are the skills required in the November exams for progression purposes. I am pleased that so many learners participated in the various academic Olympiads this term and we encourage this trend to continue growing. My thanks go out to the academic staff for their determined efforts to help and guide our learners.

Our amazing Grade 8s took time to say "Thank you" to the cleaning and administration staff in a real and heartwarming way. Their music, song, words, dance, gifts and teatime treats meant so much!

We look forward to producing another issue of our annual school magazine, packed with great memories of this year for your and your child’s enjoyment. Kevin Christie, a past pupil and the designer of “The Olive Branch”, ensures that the magazine design stays vibrant and relevant and we are excited about this year’s issue.
If you are a business owner, we invite you to place an advert in the magazine, or to sponsor a page or two. We believe that this is an excellent medium through which to advertise your business at a very reasonable cost. Magazines are distributed at Open Days, EXPOs, and parent information evenings as well as to local businesses. A copy is always available on our reception table for visitors to page through and as an advertiser/sponsor, you will receive your own copy.
The booking form is attached for your convenience. Advertising in the magazine will be on a first come first served basis. Please ensure that you book early by completing the attached form and returning it to Desirée Hickinbotham via e-mail at . Invoices will be issued upon receipt of the booking sheet.
We will be delighted if you are able to partner with us. Please contact us should you need any more information with regards to this exciting project.

Kindly note that the D6 Communicator is your go-to portal for communications from the school. Please ensure that you have downloaded this on your devices.
